Set yourself up for success in 2018 with a closet revamp!
Nothing feels better than being organized. A well-organized closet paves the way for easy mornings, bold outfits, and overall peace of mind. Here is how I will help you!
–Assess the mess. First, I will take a look at what we’re working with. Do we have a need for storage? Has kids clothes and other randoms spilled over into your closet? Is a major purge of out of style, ill-fitting clothing necessary? I will take a look and make a plan.
–Shop the stores. Next, I will head to my favorite retailers for the best organizational materials. On a budget? Target and Homegoods are our friends. Love the Container store? I got you. Hangers, shoe racks, bins, labels.. ahh! Now we’re prepared.
–Purge! Being a stylist has many advantages (when I’m not attached to a piece like in my own closet :-p). I can help you decide what is on-trend, what is a staple, and what has just seen some better days. We want to feel fashionable, put- together and chic in 2018 (and always, really).. so, pilled clothing, moth holes, tank from college, pants that never seem to look great but they’re designer so you keep ’em anyway. BYE! I can do this with you, or for you, leaving a pile of “maybes”..
–Organize! All hangers should be the same. It makes for a happy closet. Velvet hangers have taken the place of the chunky plastic ones we’ve been used to for so long. They’re great because they are thin, allowing for maximum space saving, plus they’re textured to prevent slipping. I also love to use the good ‘ol plastic clip pant hangers, the kind you see in the store. When I am on shoots, these grip best, and just function the easiest. All the clear bins for odds and ends! Labeling, seasonal swaps, finding the best system for you. That’s what this is all about.
–Clean and Reassess Now that the closet is organized. We can see the floor. I will clean up a bit.. vacuum, dust etc., color code the clothing and store it by type. Blouses, skirts, jackets.. you get the idea. We will make sure the system makes sense.
-Donations Uncommon Threads is a non-profit organization I work with. We provide styling sessions for women who are survivors of domestic violence, or low-income. Any unwanted clothing can be donated here, or I can take it with me upon leaving. If you have a place of your own to donate to that is great as well.
